VAN NUYS : Planners Back Ban on Airport Projects

Share

The Los Angeles City Planning Commission voted Thursday to impose a temporary moratorium on construction at Van Nuys Airport until a master plan to guide development is adopted for the 735-acre facility.

The commission’s decision supports a request made about three months ago by the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners that the Department of Airports permit no new construction projects at the airport.

The moratorium must be approved by the City Council, which is scheduled to consider it in about a month.

Airport officials said it may take up to two years to complete a master plan, which would guide development at the airport for 20 years.
