Blue Jay third baseman Kelly Gruber and CBS-TV commentator Jim Kaat both came down with laryngitis. Kaat could not speak by the ninth inning and was replaced by Johnny Bench, who said: "It's not the first time that I've pinch-hit." . . . Tom Henke got his first save in postseason play. Of his 12 pitches, 10 were strikes.
