NHL ROUNDUP : Sweeney Stays Hot for Sabres

Bob Sweeney scored a goal and had four assists as the Buffalo Sabres defeated the Montreal Canadiens, 8-2, Sunday night at Buffalo.

Sweeney, obtained on waivers from Boston on Friday, has three goals and four assists in two games with the Sabres after earning just 20 points in 63 games with the Bruins last season.

Sweeney’s five-point night was a career high.

Bob Corkum scored twice for the Sabres, who also got goals from Viktor Gordijuk, Pat LaFontaine, Brad May, Dave Andreychuk and Wayne Presley.

Goalie Andre Racicot faced 50 shots, one short of Montreal’s team record.

Tampa Bay 4, Chicago 4--Chris Kontos scored two more goals against the Blackhawks and Brian Bradley added the tying goal with 4:13 left in regulation at Chicago.

Kontos, who had four goals on Wednesday when the Lightning beat the Blackhawks in its NHL debut, scored twice in the second period to tie the score, 3-3.

Edmonton 3, Toronto 3--Mike Foligno’s goal with 42 seconds left in regulation capped a three-goal comeback by the Maple Leafs at Edmonton.
