Linda Roth wanted a brief bit of history. Or a bit of briefs history. So she paid $325 for a pair of President Bush’s undershorts.

Bush donated the autographed undies for this weekend’s Great Outdoor Underwear Festival.

“Buying the underwear was a piece of history,” said Roth, who bid by telephone. She said she also bought the shorts “to encourage people to vote for George Bush.”

The festival promotes the city and its heritage. In the early 1900s, Piqua had eight mills that produced several kinds of underwear.
