ESCONDIDO : Trial Set in Death of Baby Left in Trash

Share

An Escondido woman accused of killing her newborn baby and dumping his body in an apartment complex dumpster will stand trial in January, a Vista judge ordered Tuesday.

The public defender for Tiffany Nicole Sandeffer, 20, said he asked for the late trial date because of difficulties in acquiring DNA data from the baby.

Sandeffer’s attorney, John Jimenez, said he is also waiting for information regarding fingerprints that may have been found on the contents of some of the items in the trash bag that carried the child.

The DNA evidence collected by police was inconclusive in trying to link Sandeffer to the body, despite the fact that the baby’s placenta was recovered as well.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Douglas Gregg said samples taken from the body were either too small or were not preserved properly, resulting in the inconclusive results.
