CHURCH NOTES: Bishop Norman F. McFarland is upset about Proposition 161, called the Death With Dignity Act, on the Nov. 3 ballot, and he’s lobbying hard against it within the county’s Catholic diocese. . . . In its monthly “Bulletin” magazine, the bishop calls the act “a radical and decisive move toward the disintegration of society itself” and the most important issue to ever face California voters. Proposition 161 allows physicians to assist the terminally ill who want to die.
