Gunman Opens Fire on Bus Passengers; Couple Wounded
A man getting off a crowded bus Sunday in South-Central Los Angeles opened fire on the passengers, hitting a woman in the chest and her husband in the hand, police said.
The shooting occurred about 3:35 p.m. on a Southern California Rapid Transit District bus at 54th Street and Vermont Avenue, investigators said.
RTD spokesman Greg Davy said two men were getting off the bus at the stop when one drew a 9-millimeter pistol as he stepped out the rear door. He then turned around and fired into the bus, wounding the couple, who were not identified. Investigators said they had not determined what prompted the shooting.
Both victims were taken to Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center, where police said they were in stable condition.
Although there were 60 passengers on the bus, police were unable to get a detailed description of the suspect and his companion, Davy said.
