‘Discover America’ Piano Recitals Set at LACMA

American pianist Alan Feinberg will give two “Discover America” recitals at the County Museum of Art this fall.

Nov. 16, Feinberg plays a Monday Evening Concert in Leo S. Bing Theater at the Museum, this event titled “The American Innovator.” Works include Henry Cowell’s “Aeolian Harp,” Charles Ives’ “Study 20,” Ruth Crawford Seeger’s “Study in Crossed Accents,” Leo Ornstein’s “A la Chinoise,” John Adams’ “China Gates,” Charles Dodge’s “Any Resemblance to Is Accidental” (for piano and electronic tape), John Cage’s “Bacchanale” (for prepared piano), Thelonious Monk’s “Ruby, My Dear” and Charles Wuorinen’s Sonata No. 3.

Feinberg’s second “Discover America” program, Dec. 7, is called “The American Virtuoso,” and features new etudes written especially for Feinberg by Eric Moe, Laura Kaminsky, David Lang, George Edwards, Rand Steiger and Aaron Kernis, as well as works by Gottschalk, Beach and MacDowell.
