Associated Press

One day after rushing for a career-high 150 yards in San Diego’s 34-14 victory over Indianapolis, Charger running back Rod Bernstine underwent surgery on his separated left shoulder and could be out for at least six weeks. Starting in place of injured Marion Butts, Bernstine scored two touchdowns. He was hurt in the fourth quarter.

Butts hyperextended a knee against Seattle on Oct. 4. He is expected back Sunday when the Chargers (2-4) play host to the Denver Broncos (5-2).

The Chargers also have Ronnie Harmon and second-year player Eric Bieniemy at running back. One play after Bernstine went out, Bieniemy scored his first NFL touchdown.
