‘Killer Bees’ Attack Couple, Officials Say
Associated Press
AUSTIN, Tex. —
A couple who sprayed insecticide on a beehive at their farm were attacked by a swarm of what appeared to be “killer bees,” officials said.
Walter Thiem, 71, and his wife, Elsie, 68, were listed in stable condition at a local hospital Tuesday, a day after both were stung at least 20 times.
Ivan Mattson, an environmental health technician who oversees a bee hot line for the Austin-Travis County Health Department, said he had a “pretty good suspicion” that the insects were Africanized honeybees.
