In the 37th Senate District, Assemblyman David G. Kelley (R-Hemet) is running against Jim Rickard, a Democratic businessman and scientist from Borrego Springs.
Republican registration outnumbers Democrats by 9% in a district that includes parts of both San Diego and Riverside counties and all of Imperial County.
Rickard supports abortion rights and gun control. Kelley opposes abortions, except in cases of rape, incest and danger to the mother’s health. He also opposes gun control.
The latest campaign contributions show Kelley has raised $298,655, including money from political action committees representing mobile home owners, agricultural interests and restaurant owners. Rickard has raised $9,063.
