Neighborly Vigilantes

“Vigilant or Vigilantes?” in the issue of Sunday, Oct. 18, described actions by a group of citizens in Studio City trying to make their neighborhood a safer place.

Also included were the usual concerns by the usual suspects who look after young predators’ rights.

The knee-slapper, though, came from Jose DeSosa, state NAACP president, who is afraid that Neighborhood Watch groups “can get out of hand.”

In a time when we have children shot in their father’s arms, open drug buys on street corners, roving gangs painting everything in sight, thousands of car thefts annually, and parents afraid to let their children play outside, it’s good to know that we have other vigilant people out there like DeSosa, seeing that Neighborhood Watch groups don’t get out of hand.
