OAK PARK : Ahmanson Ranch to Be Topic of Hearing

Share

The Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council has scheduled a public information session on the Ahmanson Ranch development for Tuesday.

The meeting will be in the conference room of the Oak Park Unified School District, 5801 Conifer St., at Medea Creek Lane. In anticipation of high community interest, the council’s regular starting time was moved up half an hour to 7:30 p.m., council Chairman Duane Skavdahl said.

The council advises the Ventura County Board of Supervisors.

The $1-billion mini-city, which would include 3,050 homes, a 300-room hotel, two golf courses and a town center, would become part of the Oak Park school district.

County supervisors are tentatively scheduled to vote on the proposal in December. They have been receiving public comments on an environmental study of the development.

City officials in neighboring Calabasas and Los Angeles have sharply criticized the plan because of its probable impact on traffic and smog.

But Ventura County officials have been impressed by the developers’ proposal to turn more than 10,000 acres of parkland to state and federal agencies.
