COLLEGE FOOTBALL: DAILY REPORT : USC : Sun Devils’ Benton Might Be Sidelined

Arizona State quarterback Grady Benton, who leads the Pacific 10 Conference in passing efficiency, might not be able to play against USC on Saturday at Tempe, Ariz., because of a shoulder injury, Coach Bruce Snyder said.

Snyder said that Benton was injured during last Saturday’s 20-0 victory over UCLA, in which the second-year freshman completed 10 of 15 passes for 107 yards and a touchdown.

“I would doubt that he would be able to throw fluidly without pain this week,” Snyder said. “If he was able to play, it probably would be determined right before game time, but he won’t take many snaps (this week).”

Garrick McGee, a second-year freshman, is Benton’s backup.

USC offensive guard Joel Crisman is expected to be sidelined for about two weeks after suffering a knee injury during last Saturday’s 31-21 victory over Washington State. He will be replaced by either Titus Tuiasosopo or Clay Hattabaugh, with David Apolskis possibly moving over from center as a backup, Coach Larry Smith said.
