Events of the Coming Week

Today: Assemblyman Tom McClintock (R-Thousand Oaks) and Assemblywoman Cathie Wright (R-Simi Valley) will speak at the opening of Kaiser Permanente’s new Thousand Oaks medical offices. The ribbon-cutting event will also feature area community leaders, including Thousand Oaks Mayor Robert E. Lewis and Mayor Pro Tem Judy Lazar. The event will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. at the new facility at 365 E. Hillcrest Drive.

Today: The Oxnard Shores Mobile Home Owners Assn. will host a question and answer session with candidates for Oxnard city races. The 7 p.m. forum will be held at the mobile home park, 5540 W. 5th St., Oxnard. For more information, call Francine Mazze at 985-7782.

Today, Friday and Saturday: United We Stand--America will stage rush-hour rallies for independent presidential candidate Ross Perot at busy street corners. Supporters will rally from 3:30 to 5 p.m. today in Ventura at Telephone Road and Wells Road, and during the same hours Friday in Camarillo at Las Posas Road and the Ventura Freeway. On Saturday, supporters will rally from noon to 2 p.m. in Oxnard at Rose Avenue and the Ventura Freeway. Call the headquarters at 985-2656 for more information.

Today: Thousand Oaks City Council candidate Jaime Zukowski will attend a 7 p.m. coffee at the residence of Dolores Mohr, 53 Wales St., Thousand Oaks. For more information, call 493-0064.

Friday: The League of Women Voters and the American Assn. of University Women are sponsoring a candidates’ forum for congressional and assembly candidates. Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-Simi Valley), his Democratic challenger Anita Perez Ferguson and Libertarian candidate Jay C. Wood will speak. Assemblyman Jack O’Connell (D-Carpinteria) and his Republican challenger Lanny Ebenstein will also discuss issues at the forum. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. at Poinsettia Elementary School, 350 N. Victoria Ave., Ventura.

Saturday: Daniel Martinez, a candidate for Oxnard city clerk, will sponsor a fund-raising Halloween Dinner and Dance at Sandy’s Steak and Seafood Restaurant, 4238 S. Saviers Road, Oxnard. The event begins at 5 p.m. Tickets cost $15. For advance purchase, call 485-0717.

Saturday and Sunday: Supporters of independent presidential candidate Ross Perot will sponsor car rallies in Camarillo today and in various locations Sunday. Supporters will meet at 9:30 a.m. today in the Lucky’s parking lot at Las Posas and Arneill roads in Camarillo before driving in a car caravan until noon. Call 386-4970 for details. On Sunday, supporters will join car caravans at Perot headquarters in Ojai, Camarillo, Santa Paula and Port Hueneme, and drive to Harbor Beach Park in Port Hueneme for a 1 p.m. picnic. Saturday: A previously recorded forum for Thousand Oaks City Council candidates will be broadcast at 10 a.m. on Ventura County Cablevision, Channel 8.

Sunday: Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Dianne Feinstein and Rep. Anthony Beilenson (D-Los Angeles) will attend a Get Out the Vote rally at 1 p.m. in Thousand Oaks. Also participating will be state Senate candidate Hank Starr and Assembly candidate Roz McGrath. The rally will be held in the parking lot of the Bank of America building, 223 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd.
