Divac Has 25 as Lakers Beat Bullets

Vlade Divac scored 25 points and Sam Perkins 21, leading the Lakers to a 110-106 exhibition victory over the Washington Bullets Wednesday night.

Divac was 10 for 14 from the field as the Lakers’ exhibition record improved to 5-2. The Bullets are 2-4.

Divac also grabbed seven rebounds and Perkins eight. Byron Scott scored 19 points.

Magic Johnson played 31 minutes and had 13 points and 14 assists.

Center Pervis Ellison led the Bullets with 18 points and 12 rebounds, and Rex Chapman and rookie forward Tom Gugliotta scored 13 points apiece.

The Lakers led, 52-49, at halftime, and built a 14-point advantage late in the third quarter.

The Lakers maintained a double-digit advantage until midway through the fourth, when Washington rallied to close to 104-101 with 1:26 remaining.

Two free throws by Perkins and four in a row by Scott in the final 55 seconds offset a three-pointer by Gugliotta and a 10-footer by Harvey Grant with 10 seconds left.

The Lakers’ next exhibition is against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday at Chapel Hill, N.C.
