Unsigned L.A. Acts Added to Songwriters Expo
This weekend’s Los Angeles Songwriters Expo has added a new feature in its 16th year. In addition to the seminars on songwriting and the music business, the Expo will include a new “Songs on Stage” festival showcasing top unsigned L.A. acts at area clubs.
Len Chandler, co-founder of the sponsoring Los Angeles Songwriters Showcase organization, says that the live music festival, which will take place today and Saturday evenings, reflects the move of the music industry toward songwriters who also perform, as opposed to writers-for-hire.
Today, heavy metal will be featured at the Central, jazz at the Musicians Institute, alternative rock at Al’s Bar, country at the Blue Saloon and new age at the Natural Fudge Company. Saturday there will be rock bands at the Central, folk and acoustic at the 8121 Club and urban-pop performers at Nomads.
Seminars Saturday and Sunday at the Sheraton Los Angeles Airport Hotel will cover all aspects of the songwriting trade.
