THOUSAND OAKS : Investigation Sought in City Sale of Land

Share

A group of Thousand Oaks citizens Friday questioned a real estate deal in which the city sold land to a firm that helped develop a Circuit City store on the property.

Members of the Concerned Citizens of Thousand Oaks have called for an investigation by the Ventura County grand jury or the state attorney general into the sale of city-owned land to TOLD Real Estate Corp., group spokesman Don Davis said.

Opponents of the Circuit City store have repeatedly asked the City Council to look into possible wrongdoing by city officials in the sale of the land five years ago for a little more than $3 million.

The store, which is due to open next month, has drawn sharp criticism from neighbors who claim it is an eyesore that blocks views of surrounding hills. Critics of the development collected about 2,500 signatures from residents who opposed it after construction had already begun.

Assistant City Manager MaryJane V. Lazz said she has not heard from the group and could not comment until she had seen their demands.

Lazz said she was forwarding the group’s concerns to the council, which is scheduled to discuss an unrelated item on Circuit City construction at its regular meeting Tuesday.
