The President and the Press

Share

Listening to the news these days, I am deeply concerned about the future of American politics in general and the public’s perception of the presidency in particular. With every candidate (not just Bush) attempting to exploit the negative rather than the positive, where will we be when we really do need leadership? Will there be a court-martial trial (in the future) where a soldier cites a former President as justification for refusing to follow orders? Will our cynicism increase as we recall the words of former candidates when our President attempts to lead us out of a crisis?

And finally, is it in the best interest of our country, is it (cringe) patriotic to so downgrade political foes as to totally destroy our confidence in all of the candidates, thus alienating even more of the population than already is?
