MIGHT HAVE BEEN? Here’s one Pyrrhic victory for Ross Perot, who had garnered 24% of Orange County’s votes in polling last week: He’ll no doubt finish better here than any third-choice candidate before him. . . . But what if he hadn’t dropped out in July--he was well ahead in the local polls then. Orange County Perot headquarters volunteer Bob Harrison responds: “In politics, you get disappointed sometimes. We can always say: ‘What if.’ But if you believe in someone, you stick with him.”
Third Candidates
Ross Perot is likely to get more third-candidate votes in Orange County than anyone in history. 1948 Henry Wallace: 1.9% 1968 George Wallace: 6.6% 1972 John Schmitz: 4.3% 1980 John Anderson: 7.0% Source: California secretary of state
