Falcons’ Quarterback Miller Out for Season

Chris Miller’s sixth NFL season ended Monday when the Atlanta Falcon quarterback underwent reconstructive surgery on his left knee.

An arthroscopic examination revealed a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament. It took 90 minutes to repair the damage, and Dr. John Garrett said the surgery went well and that Miller was in stable condition.

Miller was injured during the third quarter of the Falcons’ 30-28 victory over the Rams on Sunday. He had gained about 10 yards while scrambling when he planted his left foot to cut. His leg buckled and he went down immediately, dropping the ball and grabbing his left knee.

Billy Joe Tolliver replaced Miller and threw the winning touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter. The Falcons also have quarterback Wade Wilson.

Miller completed 152 of 253 passes for 1,739 yards and 15 touchdowns this season. He had six passes intercepted.

“I ran to the left and was going to cut back right, sort of underneath the defensive back, then go into my slide,” Miller said from his home Sunday night. “I just heard the thing pop. It hurt like a son of a gun.”
