London Newspapers Wager on Clinton

LONDON —
Why count? Before polls had closed in the United States on Tuesday, the front page of the Guardian declared: “It’s President Clinton.”
The story in the national newspaper, which hit the streets about 3:30 p.m. PST, was a little more cautious, saying Clinton “stood on the brink of a sweeping election victory.”
The tabloid Today bannered: “America Hails President Bill.”
