From Staff and Wire Reports

Catcher Mike Scioscia filed for free agency, but talks with the Dodgers continue.

Scioscia, 34, has said he wants to play every day, but the Dodgers say they also want to play their two young catchers, Carlos Hernandez and Mike Piazza. Scioscia was platooned with Hernandez for most of last season and with Piazza in September. Jay Howell, right-handed relief pitcher, also filed for free agency.

Among the others filing were the Angels’ Bert Blyleven and the Chicago Cubs’ Andre Dawson.

Blyleven was 8-12 with a 4.74 ERA after a one-year layoff caused by rotator cuff surgery. He is 13 victories away from 300.
