WEEKEND TV : A 45th Birthday for ‘Meet the Press’

An anniversary, two new children’s shows, the AIDS virus in contact sports and a wrap-up of the presidential election will highlight this weekend’s television fare.

NBC News’ “Meet the Press,” the longest-running network program in history, celebrates its 45th anniversary on Sunday. The program, which began Nov. 6, 1947, has offered interviews with political figures from around the world. It expanded to an hour on Sept. 20 and airs at 7 a.m. (4)(39) and 8 a.m. (36).

“Kids View,” a public affairs show for children premiering Sunday, is hosted by Olympics athlete Dave Johnson. It will feature kids competing in a wide range of sports, 9 a.m. (7).

Also on Sunday, KCBS presents “Kids Ecology Challenge,” in which Southern California students match wits with celebrity panelists who try to bluff them with answers to a series of environmental questions, 5 p.m. (2).

KCBS’ “Newsmakers” looks at AIDS in contact sports and the workplace, Sunday at 4:30 p.m. (2). The public affairs shows will focus on the election and what to look for in President-elect Bill Clinton’s new Administration.
