PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Allen, Dickerson Near Milestone

Share

Marcus Allen and Eric Dickerson, the two key figures in the latest Raider controversy, are both within reach of the same NFL milestone.

Allen, who was demoted to third string this week when Dickerson was made the team’s No. 1 ballcarrier, needs four touchdowns to give him 100 in his career. Dickerson needs five.

Eight others have reached that mark, led by running back Jim Brown of the Cleveland Browns, who scored 126 touchdowns in nine seasons.

The only other active player on the list is receiver Jerry Rice of the San Francisco 49ers, who has 102 touchdowns. Rice is in his eighth season.

Allen is in his 11th season, Dickerson in his 10th.

Receiver Alexander Wright might not be able to get his name into the Raiders’ starting lineup, but he will get it on the side of a 727 jet that has been named after him.

Wright, used as a kick returner since he was obtained last month in a trade with the Dallas Cowboys, won the NFL’s Fastest Man competition in June.

Wright beat out Randal Hill of the Phoenix Cardinals in the finals by running 60 yards in 6.14 seconds.

As a result, DHL, the express carrier that sponsors the competition, will officially name one of the jets in its fleet after Wright during a ceremony at LAX on Tuesday.

Raider defensive lineman Anthony Smith is second in the AFC in sacks with nine, trailing only the Miami Dolphins’ Bryan Cox, who has 10.
