San Gabriel Valley : Green Card Program Dec. 5
A dozen municipal, federal and community agencies are sponsoring the San Gabriel Valley’s first effort to help immigrants with a new federal requirement to update green cards.
Immigrants with pre-1978 cards are required to update the documents with new photos, fingerprints and a signature, unless the card already meets the requirements.
Agencies sponsoring the program include the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service and Monterey Park, Rosemead, Alhambra, El Monte and Temple City.
The consortium decided to organize the replacement effort because of the large immigrant population in the region, said Beth Fujishige, an assistant to Monterey Park’s city manager. The green card assistance day is Dec. 5 at Langley Senior Center, 400 E. Emerson St., Monterey Park. Organizers expect to begin taking appointments at about 9 a.m. Translators will be available for Mandarin, Cantonese and Spanish speakers.
