Chris Alexander rushed for 227 yards in 35 carries and Louis Perez kicked four field goals Saturday as UCLA beat Oregon State, 26-14, enabling the Bruins to avoid their longest losing streak in 49 years.

Perez kicked a 27-yard field goal with 8:49 remaining to put UCLA ahead for good, and added a 32-yarder with 4:15 left. Alexander scored on a 62-yard run with 1:38 to play.

The win was the first in Pacific-10 Conference play for the Bruins (4-5, 1-5 Pac-10) and snapped a five-game losing streak. UCLA hasn’t lost more than five in a row since 1943.

The loss was the sixth in a row for the Beavers (1-7-1, 0-5-1).

Oregon State, 3-31-1 in its last 35 games, took a 14-13 lead on a one-yard touchdown run by Jason Barry with 8:54 left in the third quarter, capping a 71-yard, 10-play drive--all on the ground.

The Beavers were unable to pose a serious scoring threat after that.

The Bruins moved 80 yards on 17 plays to get into position for the field goal by Perez that put them ahead for good.

Dwayne Owens gave the Beavers a 7-0 lead by returning a punt 97 yards for a touchdown less than six minutes into the game.

The game was played before a Homecoming crowd of 32,513 in the Rose Bowl.
