Tailback Lamont Warren ran for two touchdowns as No. 16 Colorado discovered its running game and defeated turnover-plagued Oklahoma State, 28-0, in a Big Eight Conference game at Boulder, Colo., on Saturday.

The Buffaloes, rebounding from last week’s demoralizing 52-7 loss to Nebraska, dominated the Cowboys, who had eight turnovers.

Colorado (7-1-1, 3-1-1), which rushed for only eight yards last week and came into the game as the country’s 101st-ranked rushing team at 107.3 yards per game, scored a touchdown in each quarter and amassed 150 yards rushing and 200 passing.

“It helps our entire offense when we run the ball effectively,” quarterback Kordell Stewart said. “Being able to run makes us a complete offense.

“Avoiding turnovers was another goal, although we tried not to think about it too much, because the more you think about it, the more it seems to happen.”

The Buffaloes, who had lost the ball 34 times in their previous eight games, lost it only once Saturday--when Stewart fumbled the ball while dropping back to pass.

The Cowboys (4-5, 2-3) gained only 118 total yards and never advanced beyond Colorado’s 38-yard line. But despite dominating, the Buffaloes converted only one of Oklahoma State’s eight turnovers into a score.

“We never could get anything going against their defensive unit,” Cowboy Coach Pat Jones said. “I didn’t see anything out there today to change my mind about their defense. They’re veteran guys, and they’ve got speed and quickness.”

Oklahoma 51, Missouri 17--Earnest Williams, Dewell Brewer and quarterback Steve Collins all rushed for more than 100 yards as the Sooners used the option successfully at Norman, Okla.

The Sooners (5-3-1, 3-1-1) had gotten away from the option this season in favor of a passing game. But Collins scored two of his three touchdowns on option keepers and gave his arm a workout pitching the ball instead of passing.

The Sooners finished with 435 yards rushing, their most since gaining 428 against Missouri in the ninth game last year.

Collins, making his second consecutive start in place of injured Cale Gundy, carried 12 times for 102 yards, and had a touchdown pass to go with his three scoring runs.

Missouri is 1-8, 0-5.
