The Simi Valley Unified School District is accepting bids for a new three-story adult education facility.
The lower two floors of the proposed building at Los Angeles and Blackstock avenues would house student cosmetology and food preparation areas, a bookstore, career center and administration offices.
The third floor would include a learning lab for students of an adult high school diploma program and an adult reading and literacy program. It would also house the Simi Valley Alternative School, an independent study program for kindergarten through 12th-grade students.
Cost for the 24,000-square-foot structure is expected to run $3.8 million, with funds coming from the adult education building reserve fund, said Sondra Jones, the district’s director of adult education.
The bidding period is expected to last six to eight weeks.
The existing adult education facility, northeast of the proposed building, will be used for classrooms once the project is completed. Construction of the new facility is expected to take a year, Jones said.
