PISCATAWAY, N.J. — A man whose fingerprints were found in the van of a woman abducted and fatally stabbed has been charged in her slaying, authorities said Sunday.
Scott Johnson, 23, was arrested Saturday night at a friend’s home on the same street where Gail Shollar’s abandoned van was found earlier.
He was first questioned Friday after police received calls from people saying a man who fit the description of Shollar’s attacker was in the area, said Middlesex County prosecutor Robert Gluck. Authorities later found his fingerprints in the van, Gluck said.
Police say Shollar, 35, of Piscataway, N.J., was abducted Tuesday night when she stopped her car at a traffic light while on a shopping trip with her 3-year-old daughter.
Her daughter was found unharmed outside a day-care center the next day. Shollar’s body was found Saturday at a lumberyard near the abandoned van.
Johnson was charged with murder, kidnaping and possession of a knife for an unlawful purpose. He was jailed pending a hearing today.
