Late Night with Larry Smith:

The USC coach said that he was in his office at 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, watching videotape of the Trojans’ 23-9 loss to Stanford the previous day.

“I couldn’t sleep,” he said. “I went to bed about 12, woke up at 1 and couldn’t get back to sleep, so I just thought, ‘the hell with it, I’m going to go in and watch tape. . . .’

“When you’re laying there in bed, there are thousands of things running through your mind about why did this happen, why did that happen? So why not just come in and find out why it happened, because it’s right there on the tape.”
