Report on Disney Project Provides Heavy Reading : Environment: Document is available at public library to residents who wish to comment on it.

Residents here have a lot of reading to do in the next 45 days.

Contained in a document the size of a phone book (with four supporting volumes just as large) is the city’s draft environmental report on how Disney proposes to literally change the face of the community.

And within the next 45 days, residents, public agencies and all other interested parties will have the chance to submit their written comments or complaints about the impact of what is now being called the Disneyland Resort.

The state-mandated report is only in its draft stage and will not be made final and submitted for approval until the written concerns are addressed by the Walt Disney Co. and/or the city.

Not until at least next spring do city and Disney executives believe that the report can be produced in its final form and submitted to the Anaheim Planning Commission.

There, details of the plan would again be the subject of public discussion. A vote on whether to endorse the project and pass it to the City Council would follow commission debate.

At the council level, a series of public hearings would be scheduled. There the project’s merits would again be subject to debate before a final vote is taken on the environmental feasibility of the project.

Because of the document’s sheer size and the project’s potential impacts, city officials have taken unprecedented steps to make the report available to the public.

Ten copies of the report have been distributed to the city’s main library at Broadway and Harbor Boulevard and to the Euclid Street branch, near the intersection of Ball Road. These can be checked out, and an additional five reference copies have been placed in each of the two libraries.

At City Hall, the draft report and supporting volumes will be available for viewing or purchase at the Planning Department. The cost for the five-volume set is $50, while individual volumes can be purchased for $10.
