IRVINE — Brian Rios recorded four sacks, including one for a safety, to lead Tustin to an 18-0 victory over University in a Sea View League game Friday night at Irvine High.
Rios’ first-quarter sack for two points on the Trojans’ second play of the game set the tone for the Tillers in the season finale for both teams.
Tustin (4-6, 3-4 in league) scored on a three-yard run by Lamar Barrett and a six-yard run by Jason Reynolds. Zach Matthews added a 27-yard field goal.
It was the defense that shined for the Tillers, who thwarted two scoring threats in the second half to preserve the victory.
University (1-9, 1-6) controlled the ball for more than seven minutes in the initial drive of the third quarter, only to have two plunges from the one-yard line stopped short. The first was on a tackle by Dusan Ancich, the second on the combined effort of Ryan Peters and Troy Mooney.
A second scoring drive was halted on the seven midway through the fourth quarter.
The four sacks by Rios resulted in 45 yards in losses.
