Tollway Developments Heading in the Wrong Direction

Share

The Transportation Corridor Agencies is again delayed in the financing of the proposed San Joaquin Hills toll road. Why is it that the Bank of America and the foreign banks are reluctant to finance this boondoggle? Even with the recent federal loan guarantee, the banks are probably very worried about getting paid back.

As our high school students’ math skills have decreased, perhaps they are now working for the TCA and making the rosy projections for this toll road that goes from nowhere and to nowhere. Look at a map, and most people find that it is not a viable option for their commuting needs.

No one would be dumb enough to pay to drive on the toll road when they could drive on the 405 (Freeway) or Pacific Coast Highway for free. These roads are very congested, but not 24 hours a day. It would seem reasonable that the toll road would be deserted 18 hours a day, and used to capacity during six peak commuter hours.

We do not expect the banks to save us from this boondoggle; it’s Orange County taxpayers who will be left holding the bag.
