San Diego : Woman, 79, Struck, Killed by Pickup

An elderly woman crossing Linda Vista Road was hit by a pickup truck and killed Sunday night, officials said.
Paramedics took Sophie Gutierrez, 79, from the 6900 block to Sharp Memorial Hospital, authorities said. She was declared dead in the emergency room half an hour later, a county medical examiner investigator said.
Gutierrez was hit at 5:46 p.m. while attempting to walk in a mid-block crosswalk of Linda Vista Road near her home, officials said.
The pickup driver, James Summers, 44, of Carmel Valley, came to a stop 100-feet from the collision, and returned to the scene to wait for police, officials said.
