Training Program

As legislative liaison of St. Francis Medical Center, located in Lynwood, I salute the mission of Rebuild L.A., which strives to bring together the public and private sector to achieve change by creating both job-training programs, new jobs and economic opportunities in the long-neglected areas of Los Angeles and its surrounding communities. It is because of Rebuild L.A., acting as a resource and a facilitator, that the St. Francis Medical Center Licensed Vocational Nurse Training Center will continue to make a difference for individuals of our community as it has been doing ever since 1988.

This program trains local and minority high school students of our area to become licensed vocational nurses and provides professional career opportunities where none existed before.

Now, with the assistance and facilitation of Rebuild L.A., St. Francis Medical Center has established a collaborative effort with the City of Los Angeles Private Industry Council to focus on, and train those dislocated workers, or more specifically, adults who do not have readily transferable skills, to become licensed vocational nurses. There will be no cost to the participant. Uniforms, books, equipment and a qualified nurse instructor are provided by the industry council. Facilities, curriculum and administration of the program are provided by St. Francis. Upon successful completion of both the nursing program and state examinations, St. Francis will provide a job placement coordinator to assist nurses in finding employment.
