Reggie Jackson, Steve Garvey and Phil Niekro head the list of 14 first-time candidates on the annual Hall of Fame ballot. Ballots were mailed to more than 400 members of the Baseball Writers’ Assn. of America. Results will be announced Jan. 5.
In addition to the latest eligible players, 18 holdovers are on the ballot, including Orlando Cepeda and Tony Perez.
