Two prisoners escaped from County Jail at Descanso and still were at large Friday, authorities said.

Pedro Martinez Lopez, 31, who had lived in the 1300 block of Broadway in San Diego, and Adolpho Escalante Heredia, 25, who had lived in the 100 block of E. Los Angeles Street in Vista, escaped at 11:10 p.m. Thursday.

The 5-foot-8, 140-pound Martinez had been held on burglary charges and a bail of $50,000. Escalante, 5-foot-9 and 160 pounds, had his probation revoked on charges that he drove under the influence of drugs or alcohol and without a drivers license. Escalante was scheduled to be released next March.

Deputies said they heard noises from a security fence on the south side of the jail’s recreation yard Thursday night.

They saw the men, both Mexican nationals, jumping the fence and tried to stop them before they fled in the darkness.

Helicopters, canine units and patrol deputies conducted the search.

Both men were last seen wearing blue jail clothing heading south from the jail.

Anyone seeing the men should contact the sheriff’s fugitive unit at 974-2080 or the sheriff’s communications center at 565-5200.
