From Times staff and wire reports

Burglars snatched at least $150,000 worth of computer and office equipment from the physics department at UC Riverside, a campus spokesman said. The loss is the largest on the university since animal rights activists broke into the Life Sciences Building in 1985, causing $675,000 worth of damage to equipment and experiments. A faculty member arriving about 9 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day discovered the thefts from the night before, spokesman Jack Chappell said. At least 51 items, including office and research computers, were taken from faculty and department offices on the third floor of the Physics Building.
