Pat LaFontaine scored two goals, one on a penalty shot, and Alexander Mogilny also scored twice as the Buffalo Sabres defeated the Ottawa Senators, 5-2, Sunday night.

LaFontaine scored late in the second period, then put a penalty shot past Ottawa’s Peter Sidorkiewicz with 50 seconds remaining in the game.

The penalty shot was awarded after an Ottawa player deliberately dislodged the net.

Donald Audette also scored for the Sabres.

Brad Shaw and Sylvain Turgeon scored third-period goals for the Senators.

The victory was only Buffalo’s second on the road this season and got the Sabres back to .500 at 10-10-4.
