A 69-year-old Encino woman was struck and killed by a car on the San Diego Freeway after she crossed at least six lanes of freeway traffic trying to find her way home after getting off a bus at the wrong stop, the California Highway Patrol said Wednesday.

Yuan Mow was killed Tuesday evening in the fast lane on the southbound side of the freeway, north of Mulholland Drive in Encino, said Scott Carrier, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County coroner.

The motorist whose car struck Mow contacted the CHP after the accident and was not cited, CHP Sgt. Jim Kennedy said.

Mow’s relatives told authorities that it appeared that she had gotten off the bus near Mulholland Drive after she missed her usual stop near the intersection of the Ventura and San Diego freeways, Kennedy said.

Kennedy said it was uncertain from which direction Mow had crossed the freeway when she was struck in southbound traffic about 6:30 p.m.

Mow, who had a Chinese passport, also went by the name of Ann Yuen, authorities said.
