Auction Nets $190,000 for Research

Lymphoma Research Foundation of America Inc., at its second annual All Around Good Time Silent Auction and Dinner gala, raised $190,000 for research. The Nov. 12 benefit at the Beverly Hilton was attended by 600 guests. The foundation was founded in 1991 by Ellen Glesby Cohen and Judy Levy.

Los Angeles Master Chorale held its annual Viennese Romance Ball at the Biltmore on Nov. 21. The benefit raised $175,000 for the chorale’s operating budget. The chorale, in its 29th season, is a resident company of the Music Center. Elizabeth Levitt Hirsch was gala chair.

California Medical Center Foundation’s Nov. 19 La Grande Affaire at the Biltmore raised $85,000 for the hospital’s Emergency Services Department expansion program. Fritz Coleman, KNBC weatherman, was auctioneer. Larry Vallon chaired the benefit.

Visiting Nurse Assn. of Los Angeles held its fourth annual Corporate Golf Championship Tournament on Nov. 2 at the North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village. Proceeds of $31,000 will provide ongoing support for the Visiting Nurse Pediatric Program, which each month serves about 900 premature or medically fragile newborns and high-risk or chronically ill children.

Tierra del Sol Foundation’s Nov. 8 lasagna dinner and holiday boutique benefit raised $8,000. The foundation, founded in 1971, provides alternative educational and training programs for people with autism, epilepsy, cerebral palsy and other developmental disabilities.

Celebrity Softball with Kirstie Alley, Ted Danson, Rhea Perlman and other “Cheers” cast members raised about $30,000 for Narconon. The game, the 13th annual, was held Oct. 24.

Pasadena Day Nursery will receive $40,000, net proceeds raised at a Nov. 14 benefit boutique sponsored by the Pasadena Day Nursery Guild. The event is the guild’s 25th year of fund raising for the program of providing care and a specialized developmental program for children ages 1 to 6. Debbi Hoffman is guild president.

Save A Heart Foundation, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, raised more than $500,000 at its annual award gala Nov. 7 at the Regent Beverly Wilshire. The event, attended by 500 guests, honored Irving Feintech and Dr. P. K. Shah. The foundation’s primary mission is to train Israeli cardiologists at Cedars-Sinai. The doctors then return to Israel to continue their work. Dr. Yzhar Charuzi is founder of the foundation.

Valley Presbyterian Hospital’s Oct. 23 Night in New Orleans gala at the Ritz-Carlton, Huntington, honored Lodwrick M. Cook. Net proceeds of $155,000 will provide cardiac services. Richard Riordan was benefit chair.

Family Violence Project of Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Los Angeles Women’s Foundation. Funds will provide support for court advocacy for battered women and girls and training sessions for attorneys and judges on domestic violence and related issues.

National Council of Jewish Women/LA’s Fabulous Outdoor Flea Market on Oct. 26 netted $16,000, making a total of $43,000 raised this year to benefit the council’s outreach program for needy women and children.

Motion Picture and Television Fund’s Screen Smart Set Auxiliary hosted a luncheon honoring Charlton Heston on Nov. 7 at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. The benefit raised $30,000 to provide services to individuals in the entertainment industry.
