Beverly Hills : R-1 Commission Disbanded
The City Council voted Tuesday to disband a commission that reviews applications for single-family home development and to transfer its duties to the Planning Commission.
The R-1 Commission, a volunteer citizens group, has had only a few duties since the council approved an ordinance regulating development in the hillside district north of Sunset Boulevard, City Manager Mark Scott said in his council report. The ordinance, adopted in July, reduced the need for the commission’s review of applications by spelling out in the city’s code the requirements for development in that area.
At some future date, Scott said, the council will be asked to evaluate the responsibilities of the Planning Commission and decide which aspects of residential development should be made part of the city’s code and which should be subject to discretionary review.
