SOCCER ROUNDUP : Manual Arts Blanks Westchester, 6-0

The powerful Manual Arts midfield combination of Pablo Puga and Selvin Pineda struck three times in the first five minutes of the match Wednesday as the Toilers rendered Westchester helpless in a 6-0 Coastal Conference rout.

Puga’s goal came barely 30 seconds into the match as he broke behind the Comet defense on a breakaway.

Pineda followed with two more goals from outside the penalty box, netting his ninth and 10th goals of the season.

Midway through the half, Manual Arts Coach Ignacio Estrada removed his two stars, but the scoring barrage continued when David Matthews added a fourth goal from outside the penalty area. Raymundo Garcia and Salvador Pacheco added first-half goals.

The Toilers improved to 8-2 overall and 4-2 in conference.

Washington 3, Beverly Hills 1--The Generals (5-2-1) picked up their third win in a row with goals by Hector Reyes, Elio Guzman and Cesar Pandura to win a nonconference match Friday.

In other games Wednesday:

Belmont 2, Hollywood 0--Midfielder Henry Mendez scored from outside the box to give the Sentinels (9-0-1, 5-0-1) an early 1-0 lead at home in a nonconference match.

Garfield 1, Locke 0--Hector Carillo scored the match’s only goal on a penalty kick to lift the visiting Bulldogs (7-2-1, 5-2-1) over the Saints (1-6-3, 1-4-2) in a Southeastern Conference match.

Bell 1, Roosevelt 0--Osvaldo Williams pounded in a penalty kick 10 minutes into the second half to give the Eagles (4-3-2, 4-2-1) a tough victory in a Southeastern Conference game at Roosevelt (5-3-2, 3-2-2).

Fremont 2, Jordan 0--Rene Lemus knocked an indirect free kick into the lower left corner of the goal to give the Pathfinders (9-0-1, 6-0-1) all the offense they needed to defeat the visiting Bulldogs (0-7-2, 0-6-1) in a Southeastern Conference contest.

Jefferson 4, South Gate 2--Alfredo Garcia scored two goals and Welter Martinez had one to lead Jefferson (7-2-1, 4-2-1) to a Southeastern Conference win at Jefferson.

Osvaldo Macedo and Jorge Villea scored for South Gate (4-6, 1-6), which led 1-0 in the first half.

On Monday, South Gate beat Jordan, 4-2, and Bell beat Jefferson, 3-1.

Wilson 4, Lincoln 0--Victor Arana scored two goals and Jose Arrechiga and Marcos Osorio scored one each as Wilson (1-5-1, 1-3-1) won its first game in a Northern Conference match at Lincoln (2-6-1, 2-3-1).

Washington 4, Dorsey 0--Hector Reyes scored twice and Elio Guzman once in the first half to give the Generals (4-2-3, 4-2) an easy win over the host Dons (4-5-1, 3-3-1) in a Southern Pacific Conference game.

Salesian 2, Montclair Prep 0--Octavio Huarez scored twice and Rudy Sarmiento knocked in a penalty kick along with recording his second consecutive shutout in goal to lead the Mustangs (2-0) to their 101st straight victory at home.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Garfield 4, Manual Arts 0--Rosalba Garcia scored two goals in the first five minutes to lead Garfield to a Southern Conference win at Garfield. Garcia has seven goals on the season for the Bulldogs (6-3, 6-1). Manual Arts fell to 1-9, 0-7.

Bell 4, Fremont 0--Liz Ceja scored three goals to lead Bell (4-4-2, 4-2-1) over Fremont (1-8, 1-6) in a Southeastern Conference match.

Grant 10, Belmont 0 --Undefeated Grant (9-0) scored six goals in the first half and four in the second to defeat Belmont (2-7-1, 1-6-1).

San Pedro 7, Jefferson 0--The Pirates (7-0, 4-0) overpowered their guests, scoring three goals in the first half for an unbalanced win over the Democrats.
