New York Jet defensive end Dennis Byrd has regained “very early motor function” in some of his lower extremities, a team spokesman said.

Byrd sustained partial paralysis from the neck down last Sunday when he was injured in a game against the Kansas City Chiefs and underwent surgery Wednesday for a fractured vertebra.
