Golden Tours of Alhambra, which runs senior tours with departures from Alhambra and Pasadena, is offering a motor-coach trip Dec. 10 to the Lawrence Welk Resort in Escondido. The trip includes a luncheon and matinee performance of “The 1940s Radio Hour.”

The show is a staged re-creation of a typical live radio program in 1942, complete with a studio band playing big-band music. Audiences sit in the Algonquin Room of “the beautiful Hotel Astor in New York City, where station WOV is broadcasting live ‘The Mutual Manhattan Variety Cavalcade.’ ” There are comedy routines, staged sound effects, real commercials of the era, a narrated drama and elaborate dance routines.

Best of all is the music, which features great show tunes of the ‘40s from “Tuxedo Junction” to “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B.”
