LOS ANGELES : Review of Airport Chief Selection Process Urged

Share

It appears unlikely the Los Angeles City Council will challenge the selection of city Personnel Director John J. Driscoll as manager of Los Angeles International Airport, although Councilwoman Ruth Galanter on Wednesday called for a review of the process that led to the choice.

“I’m trying to find out why it is they passed over three people with airport experience to pick somebody with none,” said Galanter, who represents neighborhoods around the airport.

Galanter added that she is not seeking to overturn Driscoll’s appointment--and apparently lacks the 10 votes on the 15-member council necessary to do so.

“Jack is very highly regarded by the council,” said Councilwoman Joy Picus. ‘That may have been a reason why they named him.” The Airport Commission on Monday appointed Driscoll to succeed Clifton A. Moore.
