Abbott Is in Big Apple: Angel Fans Say They Are Left With Worms

Gene and Jackie can smile now that the only total lower than that of their balance sheet will be the number of Angel victories in 1993. Now that Joyner, Winfield, Harvey and Jim Abbott are gone, they can get down to the business of locking up seventh place.

I hope Abbott becomes the next Ron Guidry in New York. If this trade goes down as not only the worst catastrophe in Angel history, but one of the worst trades ever, the Autrys will get exactly what they deserve: They’ll be remembered as two simple-minded owners whose lack of knowledge and respect for baseball was matched only by their willingness to squash the loyalty and break the heart of every fan who ever bothered to wear the halo.
