An Oxnard man bicycling on Pacific Coast Highway with nine other people was struck and killed early Saturday by a pickup truck driven by a Ventura man who police later arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.

Pedro Gagua was riding northbound on the highway near Solimar Beach Road about 8 a.m. with the other bicyclists when Bradley Beasley, 30, tried to pass the pack and hit Gagua, who was trying to turn left, a CHP spokeswoman said. Beasley’s speed was estimated at about 55 m.p.h., the spokeswoman said.

Gagua was flown to Ventura County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead of chest injuries shortly after 9 a.m., Ventura County Deputy Coroner Craig Stevens said.

Beasley, who was uninjured, was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. But a preliminary investigation did not reveal who had caused the crash.
