Alpha Expects Slight Profit: After cutting costs in Europe, Alpha Microsystems Inc., a Santa Ana manufacturer of business computers, said Monday that it expects to report a slight profit for its third fiscal quarter ended Nov. 28.

President Douglas J. Tullio said he expects to report a profit of $190,000 to $250,000 for the quarter, contrasted with $39,000 for the same period a year earlier. Revenue is expected to be between $10.5 million and $11 million, he said, compared to $12.5 million a year earlier.

Tullio said the improved third-quarter profit resulted from savings after the company’s decision to close subsidiaries in France and Italy. The closings contributed to a loss of $2.9 million for the second quarter, which ended Aug. 30.

He said the company is now focusing more on software sales and service instead of computer hardware sales.
